The 2014/2015 drag racing season kicks off in earnest at Meremere Dragway with the second Test & Tune and Competition Meeting 1 this weekend 8th & 9th November.

We’ve had a semi soft opening with a very successful Father’s Day Drags in September (results here), the first Night Speed Drag Wars on 31st October and the first Test & Tune on 2nd November.  We now get into some serious racing with the first of the Meremere Dragway Comp Series kicking off this Sunday 9th November. But first, another chance to Test & Tune the cars on Saturday 8th before we settle into business.

All racers are welcome to both the Test & Tune and the Competition meeting.  As I write this, the Alsops Willys Coupe car is already settled in under the trees at the track as they look to set and sort the car up for the season.  The Greens with their not so green but very quick Monaro are on the way up and many local racers will look to consolidate data and set ups from the first Test & Tune.

The Meremere Dragway Comp Series runs with the usual classes but are split out as below:

Junior Dragster, Screamin’ Eagles, Modified Bike, Super Street, Super Sedan and Competition Bike will run as normal.  The Competition classes will all qualify together and then split into equal fields of eight from Top Comp, Pro Comp, Super Comp through to Comp.  In addition to this, Meremere Dragway in conjunction with NZ Hot Rod Magazine brings us the new Pro Nostalgia class.
The new Pro Nostalgia class is is open to all front engine dragsters, Altereds and pre 1950 sedans which run quicker than 11.00 seconds. All vehicles must be tech’d and drivers must have a competition race licence. Racing will be conducted in a DYO format over the quarter-mile.  To make the class viable it must have a minimum of six cars entered per event for racing in the class on the day to go ahead. If six don’t enter then racers can choose to race in another class for the day. Racers will be eligible to accumulate points for the Mr Drag Racer overall points trophy.

Our calendar of events is another busy one with most summer weekends barring Christmas and New Years dedicated to drag racing and drifting in the braking area .  Check out the Events page on our website for all Drag Racing dates but note that the private track days for most clubs and organisations are not listed here so it pays to contact the office if you want to look at booking your own day.

But first things first, lets go racing.

Here are some documents of information for anyone that wants to race.
