Congratulations to all our Racers of the 2012 Mother’s Polishes Winter Drag Wars Series.  It started with a bang on Sunday 3rd June with a beautiful sunny winter’s day and a hundred and five excited racers.  This would be prove to be the best turnout of participants at a Winter Drag Wars event in over six years – even burnout king Bruce Cox was there.  But it was Nick Fowler in his 1988 Ford TX3i who took out the Cars DYO class over John van Wyngaarden in his Lexus V8 powered Nissan Ute after six rounds of eliminations and countless number of qualifying and practice runs.  Our veterans and “hometown” favourites Tony Gray and Alastair Galbraith both on Hayabusa’s were 1st and 2nd respectively in the Motorbike DYO class. Have a peek here at some of the pics from Icy Photography of the first event.

We enjoyed that first winter jaunt so much that on Sunday 17th June we thought we’d get out there and do it again.  And would you believe it the weather stayed with us and the racers returned in their droves – well for a Winter anyways.  A total of over 90 racers turned up to compete at the 2012 Mother’s Polishes Winter Drag Wars Series II which saw Dave Moyle in his 1989 XF Falcon Ute take the honours over Rohit Bhattacharjee in his 1999 Mitsi Evo.  In the Motorbike DYO class, it was Kevin Lewis on his 29sec 1992 Yamaha Runner that would prove too consistent for the competition taking first and Derek Crocker on his 2002 Kawasaki Z1000 taking second place.  It had been another brilliant days racing so you could excuse us for getting a little cocky and proclaiming that the weather man was on our side!  Pics of the days action was expertly captured by the one and only Icy Photography.

Sunday 1st July dawned bright, cool and sunny and so the scene was set for Winter Drag Wars III where this time Steve Woodd in his 1996 Holden Wagon took the Event win after smoking everyone out with some solid burnouts and Rohit Bhattacharjee would once again have to settle for bridesmaid but all valuable points in the race to win the Series as it turned out.  Ashley Vazey – first time caller, long time listener – took the chance to take his bike down the strip after spending the summer crewing on Bill Hamilton’s Comp Bike took his beginner’s luck charm and came away with the Motorcycle DYO class win over Tony Saunders on his Suzuki DR400 SM.  Click pics for photos from the days racing.

Winter Drag Was IV never got off the ground…we had become too cocky after three great events in perfect weather so it was like a slap in the face when Sunday 15th July dawned and there was wet stuff falling outta the sky.

Winter Drag Was V on Sunday 29th July eventually suffered the same fate.  After arriving in cloudy but dry conditions we managed to get qualifying and some racing outta the way before the skies opened up once again.  Winter Drag Wars VI didn’t even get off the ground.  Due to popular demand, the Board decided to set a Rain Date for the final running of the 2012 Mother’s Polishes Winter Drag Wars Series and to decide clear Winners.  But Sunday 9th September didn’t fare any better and did not manage to escape the clutches of the predominantly wet and windy wintry Spring conditions.

The fate of the Series was decided in those first three blissful meetings and the season’s winners are as follows:
2012 Mothers Polishes WDW Series Car DYO Winner – ROHIT BHATTACHARJEE
2012 Mothers Polishes WDW Series Car DYO Runner Up – DAVE MOYLE
2012 Mothers Polishes WDW Series Motorbike DYO Winner – TONY SAUNDERS
2012 Mothers Polishes WDW Series Motorbike DYO EQUAL Runner Up – TONY GRAY, KEVIN LEWIS, ASHLEY VAZEY

Congratulations again to all our winners and supporters and anyone that took the time out to take on racing in winter!  We hope you had fun and enjoyed it and we hope to see you all again at the track this coming summer.

Winners and Runner Ups trophies and certificates will be sent out over the next two weeks in lieu of a proper prizegiving.
